I'm tired of hearing the noise those POS Harley's make especially when it's late in the evening. Do they have the same max noise levels as automobiles have?

There are noise ordinances. I ride and I don't have loud pipes.
Now that a lot of people are into loud pipes it's not like the 1% club.
Even the pipe companies are getting the message. People are complaining and in the past, most authorities look the other way. When enough people complain, the cops are forced to ticket you.
I like the sound but, for most people, it is offensive.
What's next? Inspections to include noise tests... not good.
Ride safe...

Loud pipes DO save lives. You obviously don't ride. I have been run off the road by the bubble-head ont he cellphone more times than I can rememeber. Once I got my aftermarket exhaust and my bike was louder, it still happened, but with much less frequency. You can hear me so you don't have to see me. Stupid....
And HD WIlliam- I just think it's hillarious how you think calling someone homosexual is an insult. Are you that insecuire with your sexualitly? That's so funny!
And yes, the EPA regulates noise, everything from exhaust noise to gear noise to engine noise. But the laws to enforce it AFTER the dealership are lacking.

Why should a bike that is so slow be so loud, I live in Milwaukee and it's to the point where I want to move, With them being made here I think the cops just look the other way.
The funny thing is the guys with drag pipes on dressers, Just what I want to listen to hour after hour on a trip. My buddy was almost deaf ater a 3 hour ride on his "Sportster", You would ask him something and he would say what? That lasted about a hour before his hearing started coming back.
When its so loud people freek out over the noise how can it be safe?

How am I supposed to get people to notice me after I spent all this money on the outfit and the bike? Whats the point? I paid all this money to be a badass.... people need to notice me. If I had something reliable, comfortable and quiet, like a BMW, nobody would be able to hear me and see my awesome Road King! I say tough to all the people trying to sleep - since I'm obviously better than all of them I shouldn't have to abide by any "quiet enjoyment" laws - I alone should be the only one granted the god given right to make as much noise as I want! Given, most of the Harley guys I know get the loud pipes because is it a well known fact that it is a proven way to attract other homosexual bikers and the majority of Harley riders do, in fact, have some deep seeded homosexual tendacies (not me of course). I'd guess that most of the people that answered this question in favor of loud pipes are most likely homosexual as well. Not me though - just most people that ride and / or like Harleys... and loud pipes.

If you're really concerned about noise pollution, start with the low riders who blast jungle music out of their cars night and day. Not only is that crap louder and more offensive than a Harley, there are more of them. Be warned, its not as 'cool' to criticize them and the political correct police might get on you.

Although I do not own a Harley
It's just a part of life we should all have to deal with..
I'd rather see a Harley with loud pipes than a Dealer selling Drugs to my kids..
Why not quest for this instead of worrying about the noise
It has been written that silence is Deadly..

If you don't like"loud pipes save lives" then how about" if it's too loud, you're too old" You must have a very complete , full and boring life to be so concerned about the sounds motorcycles make. You should get a bike!!

You have got to be kidding, I would rather be kept awake at night by the sound of a Harley then one one of those small bikes that sound like a bee in a jam jar

HELL NO!!!
The sound is the best part about a Harley.
It is the sub-sound, the grinding growl that people 'hear' and dislike. There is no law against it as it isn't louder.
I <3 it.
