Slang or shortened words are not considered bad spelling. It's bad grammar (technically).
However, the way you spelled pls isn't a shortened word. It's a short spelling of the full word. So that's bad spelling.
That said, in the context of the social aspects of the web, txt spelling is a shorthand that comes out of chatting (where it's quicker to spell like that) and the txt msg culture (where again, the shorthand is useful for speed's sake).
In an essay, letter, or properly considered email, it's frowned upon.

Slang words are not bad spelling unless they are misspelled, as for shortened words, it depends upon the context in which you are using them....if it is in a forum such as IM or Chat where the shortened version is recognized and used by many then it is perfectly alright, however if you are writing a term paper or business letter then proper English (fully spelled out) is the way to go. You need to consider who will be reading what you write, what their expectations are, and what type of message you are trying to convey.

It's entirely situational, as someone already mentioned. But so is your spoken language. You would not use the same language to a superior (your boss, a clergyman, or at a job interview) that you use among your peers.
The best language is whatever communicates effectively. But right or wrong, we are judged by the way we use language, and I have to say I'm disinclined to respond to someone who writes like "Will u plz answr." I'm assuming this is a 13-year-old with a trivial question (and I'm usually right!)

Yes. It's a bad habit that could be hard to break later in life. When you start doing that in the business world you will look uneducated and you could end up in a dead end, low-paying career. Maybe when using IM, an occasional LOL might be OK, but emails should include proper spelling, capitalization and spelling. Most programs have spell-check so use it!

I consider it the mark of a lazy mind....And it's no different from poor pronunciation in spoken language, or slurring your words. Your command of your native language tells other people what kind of person you are, so you should endeavor to speak as clearly and accurately as you can.

that is slang for 2 words and it would additionally be an indication of poor spelling capacity or in basic terms laziness. Cuz can recommend the be conscious "through fact" as in, "Cuz I say so!" Cuz is additionally used to characterize a "cousin" as in, "have you ever met my cuz, Larry?"

Yes because the actual word is not being properly spelled. To me if it's not spelled as it is in the dictionary, it's wrong.
