It's not the current administration I'm disgusted with, it's the spendthrifts in Congress that have the nerve to call themselves Republicans! Bush can be faulted for being too nice to the big spenders in his own party, but the spending bills don't originate from his desk.

Fiscal conservatives need to find an effective way to explain our position. We need a counter to the notion that we are "mean spirited" or "greedy." It's not enough to tell people that their Rights do not include a claim on the property or productivity of others, because they've made an emotional decision that a claim of "need" trumps everything else.

One can always find useful things to spend money on. How do we drive home the moral bankruptcy of Government excess? I'd love to ask some of these Congressmen why they think their pet projects are more important than me being able to help my parents, or my granddaughter.

Great question! I am with you. Its not that I dislike the woman, she has good points. But she was not my choice. And I do not think she represented herself well at some crucial moments. I think we need to first solidify exactly where we stand on issues and then say so flat out. (Although Palin actually did do this a time or two and I respected it). No more pandering to the audience of the moment. And we need to get the answers to the hard questions before we start talking. There is nothing wrong or unrealistic about conservative values and policies and its time to stop defending that as if it is something shameful. And its time to remind folks that progress is only a good thing if it actually benefits society instead of corrupting it. Its time to demand that the same tolerance others preach applies to us as well. And that both political parties have value and wisdom to contribute. Its also time to admit that all of our woes are not just the fault of politicians. Some citizens are to blame as well. We have charged up or purchased things that were beyond our means to pay for and its caught up with us. Hard work is still a necessity for living the good life and America is still a great nation. I do not have a person in mind for 2012 but I hope that over time someone of quality will emerge. I think its a strong possibility.

I was never thrilled by the selection of candidates in 2000, but as a conservative, there was only one real choice in the election. Bush has been better than I expected, but worse than what I had hoped for. He was still the better candidate in 2004.

However, I reserve a lot more contempt for the Republican congresscritters who failed to support some very important initiatives of Bush, or who failed to support some very important legislation for us conservatives. Their failure to reform Social Security, their failure to solve the illegal immigration issue, their failure to restrain their disgusting porkbarrel spending, and their failure to stop the Medicare prescription boondoggle, etc, have left me condemning them more than the president.

Bush was a known quantity regarding his 'compassion' (big government liberalism). But the GOP majority congress has been a huge disappointment, especially after the good things they did in the 1990's.

As a fairly intelligent & unarrogant person, I can certainly see outside of my "party" lines and recognize faults. But has there been fault in every administration in history? Yes!! Has any administration dealt with as many crises?? Natural disasters world wide & here, 9/11, terrorism as a whole, an oil shortage, etc. Let's not forget the BIG picture while pointing fingers.
