I believe it was a robin.
It was on a FIRE ESCAPE... so it wasn't brought there by a cat or kid. It was put there.. by a person..

There is a tale in Druid lore in which Bran shapeshifts into a Raven and is decapitated, but I would need to know what kind of bird you saw in order to help you with this omen.

It's called nature, and the food chain. A cat probably got to it, played around with it, and somehow the birds head came of durning the process, then the cat got bored with it and left it on your friends fire escape. Simple.

It means it flew into something and lost it's head. Or something else flying took it's head. Perhaps someone threw it there from above her fire escape. Lots of possibilities. There is usually a logical explaination for things like that.

The one other is that a cult of Bird Head Eaters is trying to get you to join.

Relax, don't let it freak you out. A cat caught it, tore its head off, and then was frightened away by something or other. If you find a decapitated bird NAILED to your fire escape, then you're in trouble.

It means that a cat ate the head off of the bird. Cats kill when they're not hungry and eat the head for some reason. I saw one do that to a rabbit.

It means nothing at all. Maybe a cat left it there. Life's trying enough as it is without inventing reasons to be worried.

In Native Mythology, it would depend on the species of bird. Provide that, and I can give you an answer.

My guess is it means someone or something cut the head off that bird. Just a guess though, it may have just fallen off, but I doubt that.
