KINDNESS Pays !

One day, a
poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his
way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was
hungry.
He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost
his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal
he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought
him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How
much do I owe you?"

"You don't owe me anything," she replied "Mother has taught us never
to accept payment for a kindness." He said... "Then I thank you from
my heart."

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt; stronger
physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been
ready to give up and quit.

Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors
were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called
in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called
in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came
from, a strange light filled his eyes.
Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room.
Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her
at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his
best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to the
case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the
business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked
at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her
room.
She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her
life to pay for it all. Finally, she looked, and something caught ;
her attention on the side as She read these words.....

"Paid in full with one glass of milk." (Signed) Dr. Howard Kelly.

Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: "Thank You,
GOD, that Your love has spread abroad through human hearts and hands."

I really like it! Specially since i've had a similar experience: as a white from amsterdam, i've lived in several african countries for years, just for life-experience. One sad day (i was living in Lagos) i lost my job, soon i could'nt pay my rent, and i didn't have an airticket. My ambassy did not offer help in any way. i was forced to live as a white bum in Lagos, that's no picnic! For about a year i was homeless, stealing, begging and fasting. One time i did not eat for over a f%$@#^ month, but i meditated and prayed a lot, so no prob. Then i was really about to die of hunger and thirst, when a girl gave me 1000 FCFA (about 2 $). I ate and drank, and thanked her very much! Several months later, i found my way to Douala, Cameroon. I started some small business in clothes and health-products. After like six months, i had a shitload of money, things were finally turning for the better. One good day, i met a young, poor girl in the streets. She told me her mother was very sick and needed 100.000 cfa for an operation. I had like 30 million at the time (like 60.000 $) so i gave her 250.000. And my phone number in case she needed more help. Weeks after, i forgot about it already, ma phone rang. A women's voice invited me and explained directions to the hood and the house. I decided to go the next day. I knocked at a door in a ghetto of Douala. The little girl whom i gave the money opened. "My mommy is all better," she said with a big smile (and in French). We went into the palour and yes... the girl from Lagos who gave me 1000 cfa more than a year ago sat there. When she saw me she was so surprised she started to cry. We hugged, and remained friends ever since.
This really happened, and it changed my life. Now, i give most of my money to poor people. Not to gain afterwards, but i know very well: what goes around comes around. (A Christian would say; do unto others what .... you know the deal.)
So your story is cool!

This was very touching. I have heard similar to this one. Isn't it amazing how God works thru people.

Be nice to the person next to you because one of these days, they could become your boss. I always tell people that at work. I know that has nothing to do with the story but hey you never know.

Thank you for sharing.

Tear jerkier of theme, which many different versions have been heard. I'll leave out all the stuff about how long thoughts stayed in mind after watching one on TV.

Oh yes a wonderful moral. If you beg for food and water, then WONDERFUL things will happen to you. Oh truly.

I don't see what God has to do with this, I mean the people were nice, God didn't throw a lightning bolt and burn up the bill or anything.

And God only has one capital letter in it.

A rather trite parable...the kind of things that get forwarded in group emails by old church ladies...usually with the subject line, "This really happened" or "True story." The writing itself isn't bad. It just uses a hackneyed, reader's digest style that narrates events but is less than inspiring.
