Are polo shirts fashionable for a 40 YO guy?

They remind me of 'casual workplace.' A fast food restaurant or something. In my mind, they are the geek uniform. But maybe it's just me. What do you think? And when should a guy tuck his shirt in and when should it be worn out? Links to pictures would be helpful.

I think polo's are fine on any age. It's all up to you on what you like and don't like. There is no reason you should wear something that you don't like just because of fashion and style trends.

Leaving the shirt out looks very sporty. Usually works better with jeans than slacks, and best on younger men and teens.

For the mature and/or business look, tuck it in with a pair of pants, not jeans. This would probably look nicer on an adult man. You're not old by any means (you are the same age as my hubby), but neither should you be dressing 20 something.

Also, look for either solid colors or more simple stripes.

I'm in the middle on this issue. Sometimes they look great, other times they look stupid. It all depends on the guy, how he is wearing it, and where he is going. A young guy with it tucked into low rise jeans looks like he can't make up his mind what he wants to do. Be mature, or be young. A mature adult with them hanging out over jeans can look sloppy.
Remember that dress your age isn't just for women. 40 trying to be 20 doesn't work well on a man or a woman. If you are going to a pool, beach, barbeque, picnic, or some other outdoor event, untucked can look comfortable and casual without going youthful. If you think you will be indoors, like at a resturant or bar, I would go tucked. It looks more mature and diginfied.

I work at RL and I will say that polos are fashionable on any guy. Theyre a classic and are as easy to put on as a tee-shirt but can project a much more stylish image. There are different styles and fits though that I would say are more appropriate for one age group or body type than another. For example I would say the slimmer custom-fit polos probably wouldn't look too good if you have a little weight on your belly.

I am 42 I have a large torso and a thick neck from weightlifting as a younger man, I can not wear many other shirts other then button ups or polo shirts. I tuck mine in. I think the untucked looks sloppy.

I think polo shirts look great on a 40-year old guy! I'm 40-something, and my man is over 50. I think his chest, arms, etc look great when he wears a polo shirt on Casual Friday. Tuck it in - just my opinion. Looks great with pleated dark khaki pants, also.

By now you should be able to tell what looks good. But I have worn polo shirts inside and ooutside depending on the style of the shirt

polo t-shirt will be great. actually casual clothes make you look younger. to avoid it being treated as a uniform try avoiding plain ones.
if you want to give it a semi formal look then tuck it in.
if you are not at anything formal it may be let out.

i like polo shirts alot, they are for casual events
my boyfriend is heavy set, so he looks better with them untucked
but hes 19
and youre fourty
my stepdad is fourty and he tucks them in
and he is heavy set as well

i like polo shirts on guys it makes them look more mature, so go for it!! but dont tuck it in thats just nerdy looking!!

Yeah of course they are fashionable. Anyone car wear anything they want as long as they think it makes them look good. =D
