Positioning: is how u want the product to be positioned in the mind of the customer.How do u want him/she to see your product. For example: as a healthy product , a cool product , a good quality product... you should always use one positioning in order not to confuse your customer.

Branding: is when you are choosing a brand name for your product.

the similarity may be found when the brand name reflect the positioning of the product :

example 1: Energizer batteries,they are positioned as being lasting batteries,and the brand names reflects this position (energy)

example2:Santal juice has a brand name that reflects the positioning. Santal means healthy , and the position of Santal is a healthy juice.

This similarity cannot always be found. Example: pepsi (doesn't reflect the positioning.
