At how many weeks did you start curing it? Did you cure it at all? If not, what happened? I'm very curious because I am 17 weeks pregnant and found out that I have bacterial viagnosis 2 weeks ago but i'm here in the Philippines and I won't be returning to California in 3 weeks (20 weeks prego by then). I tried my best to get the medication that was recommended for me but they don't have it here. What will happen? HELP PLEASE!

Not to alarm you (yeah that phrase alone always gets me going) but you do need to get this fixed quickly.
This sort of infection can cause a uterine infection which will lead to a miscarriage.

If the doctor can recommend an equivalent perscription there in the Philippines that would be best. Sometimes the drugs are used under different names in different countries. This is a common infection so there have to be alternatives to the one they have already recommended.

Good luck on this and congratulations on the new baby!

I got this infection while I was pregnant. Bacterial Vaginosis occurs because of rapid hormone changes during pregnancy. Either your vagina doesnt make enough of one type of secretion to keep up for the loss in hormones thus resulting in an infection in which it over produces vaginal fluid. This infection is usually taken care of by a cream or pill, and is taken care of early, it is not a problem. If treatment is not available to you right now, calm down. Nothing will happen to the baby in two weeks time. Dont over cleanse your vagina (this adds to dryness which then causes your vagina to produce more infection) See your ob/gyn when you get back to the states and dont worry! I know thats hard to do during pregnancy (I know, trust me!) but there is nothing you can do about it now, so just enjoy being pregnant!

Wow ... a nurse that doesn't know what bacterial vaginosis is? Amazing.

Why don't you ask your Dr for a substitute until you can return to the US? You might want to be careful to take anything that might "inflame" it, of sorts.

Also, did you get a second opinion? Many women's bodies "seem" to have BV during pregnancy and it's not always so. I'd definitely get a second check.

I don't think you need to worry because it can be cured easily... that being said, it is always better to take care of things sooner than later, like today.

"BV is typically treated with antibiotic medication. Metronidazole (Flagyl) is the first-choice treatment for BV. If you aren't pregnant, you can choose to take it by mouth (orally) or by inserting it into the vagina; pregnant women are only treated orally."

"What does my medication look like?

Metronidazole is available with a prescription under the brand names Flagyl and Protostat. Other brand or generic formulations may also be available. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about this medication, especially if it is new to you.

Flagyl 250 mg--blue tablets
Flagyl 375 mg--light-green/grey capsules
Flagyl 500 mg--oblong, blue tablets
Protostat 250 mg--capsule-shaped, white tablets
Protostat 500 mg--capsule-shaped, white tablets"

" Metronidazole is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is not likely to harm an unborn baby. Do not, however, take metronidazole without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. "

I'm not quite sure what that is. I had a yeast infection in the early stages of my pregnancy, I was two months. (maybe that's what it is, they just use a different term because you are in a different country?) The thing is, I didn't know I was pregnant. My doctor gave me medication in the form of a pill called Diflucan, two weeks later I found out I was pregnant, but thankfully the medication was safe, and very affective. Hope this helped you out a little.

Congrats on your prego but not to worry! I had same condition, it is more or less a nuisance that's all, its an imbalance of the vaginal flora that can be caused by many things and one of them is pregnancy. Try to avoid douching and tight clothes and and put up with it 'till you back in CA. If you can get Canesten vaginal cream in a pharmacy somewhere, that's the best OTC remedy, your trip to Thailand itself can be the cause of it too, the change in diet and hygiene facilities or stress..... BV is a nuisance and I had my share of it. According to my Gynaecologist many women have it. Best is to ask your doctor back home about it, because they recommend antibiotics, but be careful with that because of your pregnancy!

is it a prescription? if it is call your doc, maybe he can write a prescription or even give you samples. You can have someone fedex that to you. It sounds serious so get in touch with your doctor, and if it's a non-prescription medicine, then i suggest a family member to go buy iy and fedex it to you. Good Luck!
