There is no rational, moral reason why two adults of the same gender should be barred from entering into a marriage agreement if that is their desire (unless they are already married, of course). Apart from making some religious people uncomfortable, homosexuality causes no harm whatsoever.
Gay people just want to live their lives, do well at school, make a decent living, enjoy some laughs with friends, fall in love, and found a loving family (some, anyway, not all). What is so wrong with that? If I value these things and want them for myself, how can I, according to the ethic of reciprocity (Golden Rule), deny them to someone else and be moral?

There is no RIGHT to get married anywhere in this country. The state permits people to marry (that is why you have to get a marriage license). Many states laws said or say now that only a man and woman can legally marry. So as far as violating rights that argument is void. Now as far as society is concerned it is a trickier issue. The standard, and some say foundation of society, since the birth of man has been the family. That had always been between a man and a woman who could potentially produce children. Will it destroy society, probably not, but as long as we live in a democratic country we should allow the people to decide what the laws are, always reserving the right to change our minds later. I have never heard a convincing argument for it though.

Of course it SHOULD be right in society. Gays and lesbians deserve the same basic rights we all have. We're treating them like we did the African-Americans in the 50's & 60's. It's absurd and when people look back on us for doing this 10, 15, 20 years down the road they're gonna say "What in the hell were these people thinking"........!!!!

Gender-based discrimination is wrong
The laws regarding same-sex marriage have nothing to do with sexual orientation. Gay people can get married, as long as it's a male and a female. Straight people cannot be married if they are the same gender. So, it's pure gender-based discrimination.
The government should not be discriminating based on gender. Any more than it can discriminate based on race.

Gays have the same rights as everyone else when it comes to everything. They can get married if they want. There is nothing preventing a gay man from marrying a woman. Or a gay woman from marrying a man.
Gays want equality, yet in the same breath they want new laws that apply to them. They want the definition to be changed so it suits their needs. What's equal about that?
