All I can do is tell you my story & you can have your own opinion. I was in labor for 36 hrs. My baby was a week late and the day the docs were going to induce labor I started my contractions. I only opened up to 5 cm though and my baby was trying disperately to come out. I ended up with 4 epadorales (shots), very unusual... the medicine was not working. So last resort was an emergency c-section. They ended up putting me to sleep because the shots weren't working; I did not have pain until two days later. The pain wasn't that bad either, yes there was pain..of course, but it wasn't like I was dying or anything. I was restricted to the house for a month afterwards, because yes it is a major sergury. No steps, no driving, but it was good to stay home with the baby anyways, so no complaints. Yes, there is scarring but my doctor did a bikini cut, so you can't see it. Your muscles are cut, so it is harder to lose the belly, but it can be done. So, although yes, it sounds very scary, and is very necessary at times, it wasn't all that bad, not for me anyway. I would recommend not having a c-section if it's not needed, but if you would need one, don't worry, it's not as scary as most want you to think.

In July, my daughter was in labor for 36 hours, and they finally said she couldn't take any more. When they took the baby, the cord was wrapped around it, and in normal delivery would have either died or suffered major brain damage.
She admits 100 years ago, both she and her baby would have died.
She cannot drive or lift anything for 6 weeks, so my wife stays with her most of the time. This is a big negative. The surgery and following treatment costs many thousands of dollars, which is a big factor unless you are wealthy.
A friend in Mexico is a gynecologist. She says normally around 15% of births need C-section for medical reasons. She has been in the field for nearly 20 years, and has never lost a patient during C-section, which I assume is a great achievement.

I don't really think of it as a choice. I had my first because my baby was breech. The advantage?
A healthy baby. Disadvantage, it hurts like hell for a long time. A C-section is a major operation, but it that is what it takes to have a healthy baby, that's the answer. I would never do it just for kicks.

No pain in a c/s? lol More pain from a c/s than a normal delivery. There's a reason c/s is a last resort. They are dangerous and bad for the baby unless it's done for an emergency. Beware of c/s happy doctors.

There are increased risks involved with having a c/s - after all it's major abdominal surgery. (Increased risk of infection, blood loss, hemmorhage, etc.) In some cases, it is worth the risk if mom and/or baby may be in danger. It should absolutely NOT be an elective procedure though.
There may be no pain during the procedure, but there is pain AFTERWARDS for much longer with a c/s than after a vaginal birth.

The advantage is you have no pain during delivery, but alot more pain for days after. A normal delivery is an experience than you will never forget, and once the baby is born the pain is all finished. If I had a choice I will go with the normal delivery. I have had six children and all mine where normal deliveries.

No C-sections does not cause any danger. I had both of my children by C-section. the only thing that bothers me is that it is harder to lose the extra weight because once you get cut open all that fatty tissue kind of puts a halt to the losing weight. Dont' get me wrong you can lose the weight but it is harder to do so.

C-section takes longer to heal and ur in more pain with it. But I do recommend it if your getting ur tubes tied too. I've had two c-sections and it's not the greatest expierence in the world

well... the advantage is that there is no pain because they numb you. and the disadvantage is that you will carry a big scar on your tummy forever
