How handy are you with an xacto knife and contact paper? lol Really though contact paper is an excellent counter top cover, you must remember to always use a cutting board and not directly cut on the counter. Also buy extra in case of tears or bubbles. Buy a contact paper with a design that does not have to precisely match up, avoid stripes or large patterns like flowers or else you will have strange meeting points at the seams. i recommend the grey flecked type paper it does not look very god on the roll but it turns out nicely on the counter top i have fooled lots of friends with it. The contact paper is a project that will take a few hours of meticulous detail but you can do it! peel the backing off a tiny bit at a time and smooth down using a soft cloth instead of just your hands. It gets the bubbles out better. Good luck have fun
* Formica is what my counters have all been too. Contact paper works great!

You don't give enough detail.
What is the substance of the counter tops? What shade of green? What other colors exist,,,by choice or design?
I can't,,,nor can anyone else here, advise you properly, without knowing,,,BUT I will tell you one thing.
DO NOT PAINT!!!!
It's a surface that comes in contact with food and its preparation.
Define the substance of the counter top first. If it's formica, or similar laminate, it's the easiest, least expensive change you can make. If it's tile, you cannot do more than remove it, as will be the case with corian, granite, marble, etc.

I've seen them painted on the decorating shows but it's only a temporary fix and you have to use a special epoxy paint.
Laminate countertops are not very expensive to replace and I'd rather do that than paint it.

Paint will not stick to laminate countertop..It is designed to keep germs out so anything you add to it will attract germs so don't do it

Relaminate it. It's a pain in the butt but can be done.
