I have a friend from the south who has lived in NYC for about six years now. She never had a racist bone in her body toward african-americans. However, since coming to NYC she, for the most part, does not like them anymore as they come across very irreverent to themselves and other people. African Americans I have meet in the south or outside of NYC I should say, have been very polite and nice. I sort of agree with her. I know this isn't true for all people and I take everyone at face value and nice people are nice people no matter what race they are and vice versa.

She runs into these people everyday and over time this is what has built up. This is not a one day quick observation.

I like to call the 4/5 subway train Amistad Slave Ship because it appears as if it bringing in all the black people from Brooklyn to work in the city.

Having lived in both the north and the south, I know that the southern pace of life is much slower than in the north. Southern view northerners as rude and pushy. I find that northerners are helpful people if you treat them with respect. It is just that things are moving so fast and are so congested in the north that people often push through the day without giving thought or consideration to others around them. Also, in the north one must be a bit harder so they won't get pushed around, stepped on, or taken advantage of. This can be very difficult for a sweet southerner to get used to.

I am not a racist...but, I have noticed that some african amercians have a real bad attitude towards white people...thats from my experience, - living in different parts of massachusetts...I dont think its a black thing either, because I have met some nice black folks...especially the black Jamacian people...i adore them...so, i think your friend ran into some bad black people who turned her off.....

I guess your friend went through what happened to me one day in the big city (Dublin) When anywhere and everywhere i went ... I didn't bump into anyone irish, but a mix of people from poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, nigeria and you name it! It felt pretty frustrating because the vast majority of them were not all that helpful but!!! Some of them were so really ... Maybe you should tell your friend not to judge a book by its colour!
