I am a beginning oriental dancer. I don't feel I know traditional Egyptian music well enough to interpret it through dance. However I can feel and understand some of the Amr Diab lyrics (through translations). I probably won't be dancing for arabic people as I live in Japan. However I don't want to insult the art.

Don't be afraid to dance to almost any middle eastern song. Amr diab is danced to all the time by bellydancers. The dancers over in egypt dance to him, the dancers in Austrailia dance to him, dancers in the UK dance to him, and deancers right here in the good 'ol USA dance to him. The only music you really have to be careful about dancing to which would be an insult would be patriotic or religious songs. That would be a very big no-no! Most posp singers are safe but some of the older stuff for examl=ple by Om kalthoum is very patriotic and sings about the love of their country or disslike of certain government aspects. Rai can often contain the same thing. But, Amr Diab is a pretty safe bet for dancing to. Have fun with it. The first song I ever heard of his was Ya nour el ain and I have danced to it many times since. Egyptian pop is often the choice of beginner dancers simply because the style of the music is more familiar because it's done in a more modern westernized style which is easy for newbies to follow. As you become more aquainted with the rhythms and nuances of middle eastern music and dance you will be able to apprecitate the classics to a better degree although that doesn't mean you should stop dancing to amr diab or other egyptian pop, their just as much fun later as they are now. I don't know anything about oriental dance, however, I do understand and respect your sensitivity in not wanting to insult the art.

I often dance to African music, and though I intend to learn African dance, right now, all I can do is feel the music and move to it using my interpretation of what I feel and what I have seen African dancers do. Someone who actually knows the traditional dances to the traditional songs might laugh at me, but I feel I am dancing with respect to the music with the ability and background that I have. It makes me feel happy.

LOL, i observed that. :-) yet, WHAT??? Amr Diab is virtually 50??? there is not any way! i presumed he became in his 30's. i'm bowled over. --------------------------------------... Edit: Zoser, i'm so shocked. I regularly can tell if somebody had plastic surgical operation yet his well being practitioner could be an extremely sturdy one. properly, he seems large for his age!!! --------------------------------------... Edit: Zoser, it is not sturdy to do the GH ingredient if it could strengthen maximum cancers cells. i might choose to easily circulate under the knife.
