Oh dear Brian you've obviously never been to NZ then or seen the photos....lets not compare NZ and UK huh? lol! I can confirm that us kiwis come to London....not because we havent seen a great country before....lmfao.....but......we simply USE it. It is a great English speaking base for us to see Europe. Simple really.
We all come and live in London....earning the pound is FAB and take advantage of easyjet and ryan air to see as much of Europe as we possibly can. Although.....those cold dark winter days when it's dark at 3pm are very very alluring......GREAT country! ;o)
We know how amazing our countries are...and we know we have that to go back to and settle down...but we just like to see the world first. ;o)

I had an Aussie room mate in London and asked him the same question. He said it's their chosen "growing up" experience, that allows them to work in a country where they speak the language and at the same time visit the rest of Europe at leisure. You will notice that a lot of them come in their early 20s, stay a few years, live it up, travel around Europe and then usually return home (though not all of them).

The same reason there's lots of Brirish ex-pats in Australia and New Zealand. People don't necessarily want what they grew up with for their entire lives.

Anyway, London's an amazing city!!

I'd say it has to do with the 2 year working holiday visa that has been extended to members of the commonwealth.
It's always a good idea to see how the rest of the world lives and step out of your own comfort zone in your own country for a few years.

There are many, many Aussies because there are many, many bars. And these bars all need staff...........
