Should we pull the troops out of the Middle East, close our military bases all over the world, kick the UN out, revoke all foreign visas, seal our borders, put a stop on all money going to foreign aid whether government or privately sponsored? We could dump our money into alternative fuels that are affordable, national health care (quality care run by the private sector but supported by government finances), a star wars defense system, bring all missionaries back to help our own poor, repair our infrastructure, put money into education to get quality teachers and smaller classroons, any one caught entering the country illegally would be shot on sight. If we can defend ourselves, if we can support ourselves, name one thing we need from the rest of the world.
I'm tired of the America bashers, is it time to tell the rest of them, "Fine, you're on your own"?

Belzebub, I wasn't lecturing the world, I was talking to fellow Americans.
As to previous history, we didn't have the power to back up isolationism then as we do now.
Vendetta, I thank you for your service. I know what you are talking about, I was in SE Asia in the Army in the 70's. Maybe if we could hear more about the good we are doing I wouldn't be so jaded.
Some really outstanding answers so far, thanks.

Yes, it is easy to see your point of view. but we are all one human race. I am an United States Marine. and I really don't think it is wise to do that. First and foremost we can not close down our military bases overseas, we need those for national security reasons... and in order to keep those bases in a foreign country we need to keep good ties with those countries. You are always gonna have america bashing... **** we have it here on our own soil. People bashing our president is like bashing our country. He is our leader and our representative. let's treat him as such. and even though you have those who don't want us there as in iraq... You also have kids who need us their for their present and their future. The greatest thing to see is an Iraqui kid saying thank you to a United States Soldier. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Absolutely not, at least not as you describe. I would be willing to consider bringing most of our military home and ending government-funded foreign aid. I would not want to seal the borders or prohibit private international trade.
America is made stronger and more prosperous through trade. Other countries are made more peaceful through trade. It's the same with immigration. There are a lot of talented, resourceful people out there that want to become Americans, and it would be foolish to turn them away. We can control immigration without prohibiting it.
Even if we did not benefit from trade, part of freedom is being able to do what you want with what you own. If I own a thousand dollars, why shouldn't I be able to send it to help the poor in India or to invest in Africa? That money belongs to ME, not to the government or the people of America. As long as I am not giving it to an active enemy of the U.S., like Al-Qaeda, I should be allowed to do with my own money what I wish. Even send it overseas.
We could get by as an isolated nation, but our standard of living would be a lot less. Not to mention, that wouldn't stop the America bashing. Why make that sacrifice unless it is absolutely necessary?

Emotionally I agree 100% with your points. Intellectually I think it would not work economically as we have truly become a global economy. I think the fight needs to be against a global one world government, which I think the first shot fired is to quit the UN
This will however never happen as long as their is a socialist movement in Congress. To eliminate the socialist threat America needs to know first that there is one and secondly who the participants are. I have included links below to help you identify who they are. We also need to spread the word as hard and as fast as we can that the socialists are seeking to take over the government at which point if they are successful we will begin to move to a totalitarian government such as communism. Make no mistake about that, this is what the socialists want, total control of the USA.

America had a firm isolationist policy in the early 1900's. Read your history to see how that worked out. I would personally love it if we told the world to take a hike but it would lead to the same result as in 1918 and 1937. If your going to do it make sure your willing to take the result

You mean "No Give, No Take , Fu*k you we`re OK"
The United States Of Eutopia?
Sounds good, this promised land of yours.
When you scurry back over the border don`t forget to gather your dirty fu*king laundry up and take it with you.
I know your not a typical example of an American, i`m appalled at your suggestion, as my sascasm implies.

A huge sigh of relief would be heard from the rest of the world if America stopped meddling and bullying everyone. While i admit you aren't all bad, you need to look at this from the perspective of nonamericans.

FINALLY!!! Someone with some common SENSE. I have been saying this for YEARS. Runnning for public office Bud? I'll vote for you. :)
We should be friends with those nations that have always been friends with us. If you do not support us, you are against us, and are therefore a part of the WORLD PROBLEM. Giving should begin at HOME. We need to fix our domestic problems here, and make life better for our own people. To HELL with a world that does not want us in it, unless we give them willy-nillly whatever they want. We'll do just fine on our own. They however, will probably collapse within 2 decades.

I was about to say 'yes', but that is a bit extreme. Generally, I like the idea though.
