I don't like the idea of paying for retards, cripples, old people, people who want a free ride or anyone else! How much of the tax money goes to welfare and social security or any other similar service? Why can't a person just take care of his ownself and let other people do the same?

It's been the test of time. Those who don't have something feel that those who do have it should share. It's much easier to ask or demand something than to be the one forced to give it up. As a human being and part of society I do understand the importance of helping others. But I do draw the line on total dependence. A person who worked minimum wage jobs does not need a $300,000 plus expense heart transplant! I am sorry if this sounds harsh but that is the way it works. We are a part of nature, no better than it. Sometimes the weak need to be "weeded" out for the survival of all. Other wise it becomes a drain and pulls important resources.

I agree with you on a level. Personally, I work two jobs and it really does get up my nostrils that some people are laying around drawing a check each month simply because they're too sorry to get a job and work. I also don't believe in giving people a check because they're an alcoholic or on drugs. I do realize though that a lot of people need help. For instance, people who are retarded should be entitled to some help. A lot of people with mental retardation do work in various fields - for instance, there is a guy who bags groceries in my local supermarket. There are also workshops where people can make things, etc. People with physical disabilities also participate in workshops, and personally I know many people who are crippled that work. But as far as a free ride goes, I do agree with you 100%. What gets me are these women who get out here and have baby after baby so they can get WIC, welfare, food stamps, free medical care, I've even heard there are programs that will buy you a vehicle if you have a baby. Now that's a bunch of bull!

The people who receive Social Security paid it into the system during their working years as you if you are employed are doing. The reason for the large welfare roles is so politicians can have control over people who do not have the ambition or power to help themselves. The comment in your question about cripples and retards tells me you should be thankful their is a method for your support.

you are a very angry person! I agree with you on the welfare part .But as for as the other I think you need to sit and think of what you just said. the mentally ill cant help that they are that way . And if you were in the same situation you would be able to get help just as they have. As far as the physically handicapped they need our help too. Again if you were walking across the street and someone hit you and ran you would need help too. and you would get it . As far as the elderly we as a nation should have addressed this matter A long time ago. We government has dug there self into A hole by telling the earlier generation that don't worry about saving for your retirement you have social security we will take care of you. In closing in some cases people do need our help but we need to get rid of these baby farms that welfare has caused and as Americans we need to prepare for our own retirement and not depend on others to do it far us

A civilized society should protect those in need... many of which you have identified, although I might use other terms. Yet, you describe a problem that exists when certain institutions are present that seek by their nature to drain from the system. There are always those who seek to pursue personal gain rather than invest the time and effort that can easily provide better results. The US is deeply entrenched in a 'victim' mentality at the present, and many people feel they are 'owed.' Until the nation escapes the depths of this grip, it is destined for stagnation of a free-market capitalist system that can help resolve some of the wealth redistribution issues you address.

I do not mind helping others and if I have more money I will teach people how to work and how to be able to take care his or her own selves. Unfortunately, we have our welfare system that people do not respect the system because, it is free of charge at the same time people do abused the system and hold on to it. So the system sucks and the people depend upon it. If people respect the system and only use it when he or she needs it then it is all right but we have people hang on the system for 20 years and no desire to work and it makes the others looks bad when he or she want to get out from the system.

This has got to be the most ignorant question posted of all time! First of all how in the hell is a cripple or a retard going to take care of themselves? Think about it. Second how would you like if you were in that position and believe me things do happen, and you had no kind of support? You reap what you sew, and if your idea is just to let these people die off, then I hope you find yourself in a similiar position and noone shows pity to you. Live in reality! Life isn't perfect and it's INSANE to think everyone else should be. If you can take care of yourself great, but when you give to others you begin to really live.

How shallow are you? You really cannot have thought through what you have written!!!
Get out of your pit and take a good look on your own doorstep.
Remember a year ago, in your country, you had floods, peolple died, you even had bodies floating in the streets for almost 2 weeks. Homes were trashed. Now you could argue that flooding would be 'act of God', whatever.,........however, are you turning your back on these thousands of people of all ages, of all creeds, and you dont understand why you should help them.?
I really do feel so sorry for you.
Get over it, get out there and help your fellow man.
One day mate, you may well be looking at a washed out house or garden, think about this very carefully.
I think you should post an apology for your question and please, think your words through before you write them down.
Good Luck.

The human animal has a whole spectrum of characteristics built into his/her make up. What each becomes depends upon which of those characteristics he/she decides to exercise.

Some people decide to become workers and they work to earn and thereby live a decent existence.

Some becomee gamblers and thieves who try to gain, by chance or force, what they need.

And there are others who decide to just drift and glean what they can from the waysides of life.

And finally there are those who, through no fault of their own, become incapable of doing anything to earn money or advance themselves.

All of our religions ask that when we have more than we need that we give some to they who have less than necessary for life.

Charity is part of responsible living.

Charity is the vehicle that protect everyone from the tricks of fate that can, in an instant, change a millionaire into a pauper.

Taxation is one of the forms of "Charity" that provides the conveniences of roads and protections like Fireman, Police, Soldiers, Health worker, etc. It also provides temporary support for individuals who are temporarily unable to provide for themselves.

It's all a form of Charity, one is a voluntary Charity and the other is a mandatory form of Charity.

This is done for higher morals than yours apparently. It's also done to protect society from a major uprising which usually starts in the poor sector of society. Call it a stability tax it has served this country well for over 200 years in one form or another. Countries that don't have such systems usually don't last long due to internal up risings which leads to the gov't down fall.
