My girlfriend experienced itching on a small section of the inside of her vagina a couple of days ago, which was relieved by talcum powder. However, the area has now become slightly inflamed and she cannot get much inside there, although it is not painful. We think she may be experiencing an allergy to a new kind of condom that we used. Does anyone know what the problem could be? We have an appointment with a doctor but it would be useful to hear from anyone who has had or knows about similar problems. Thanks.

Sorry, it was not talcum powder, but anti-bacterial, anti-fungal powder.

The most likely thing it could be is thrush (build up of yeast)..... this causes inflammation, itchiness and some smelly discharge. It is nothing to worry about it is common especially after taking a course of antibiotics.. and can be cleared easily with canisten which the doctor will prescribe....tell her not to wash with any soap just water....and see the doctor first incase there is an allergy of some kind.....good luck

Sounds like a yeast infection--also--she should never use talcum powder, as it has been found to cause cervical cancer because of the chemicals in it.

allergy, herpes, infection - the doctor will have to have a look. but agree that talcum is NOT good for a women's vaginal area. i believe it makes yeast thrive. if it's a simple allergy or irration there are anti-itch and/or hydrocortisone creams she could use.

Jugding by the quick onset of this symptom, this could be an allergic reaction in the form of urticaria especially when no pain is involved. You could try antihistamine or prednisone pills.

Could easily be the condom, a yeast infection (thrush) is also highly likely. Both are easily sorted and you are right to get it checked out

she could be allergic to the latex in the condoms. try latex free condoms. just don't use that same condom again and certainly don't use anti-fungal powder.

Vaginal infections and yeast infections are very common. There are a lot of ways to help reduce risks of infections.
Wear cotton panties, and not to tight pants. Don't wear underwear to bed. Shower after every workout. Shower after every sexual intercourse. Eat yogurt!

it really sounds like thrush but if it is you will both have to be treated, drinking plenty of water and either going to the docters or go to the chemist and buy some caniston products , going to the docters is the best bet
