Cotonou was French and they still speak French. Benin was called before Dahomey, capital city Porto-Novo, the very place of black magic. Beautiful white sandy beach and lots of coconut palmtrees. Cities are poor and undeveloped. Bidonvilles. You can hire a car and driver, drive far inland and go hunting rabbits or ducks, or go for a safari photos, in local pirogues with a guide who will not get lost on the deep swamps. But you must obtain the permission of the King of Avrankou to do so or you will get in a lot of trouble with the natives. Be on your guard and try to have a good time. It's worth it. Bon voyage.
I lived in Porto-Novo, I am French.

it's a very poor country, u can't get a city map in a place like that, anyways there's hardly anything fun to do there. You can only try and enjoy your trip if it becomes possible for you.
