Forget lyrics, style etc. Which modern singer's voice is really beautiful? Which voice do you love to listen to? Do you find anyone's voice to be unpleasant or grating?

Kelly Clarkson, Shakira, & Christina Aguilera all have amazing voices. There are so many people out there that go by looks & style & what genre of music a person is, or even by what they hear in the tabloids. But I listen to what makes me feel good! Oh yeah, there is one voice that most people love that I don't like. Josh Groban. I know, I'm terrible but everyone says his voice sounds like an angel's but I think it's just boring!

It has been an issue with me for a long time. I believe that if you're going to attempt to actually do anything especially publically and where others can hear it, you should take the time to know what it is you're doing.

The human voice is the only living instrument. It can be fine tuned like a string instrument because it actually is a string instrument, it can be mastered like a wind instrument because it is a wind instrument, it is actually a combination of all the basic traits of all man made instruments. It is the oldest and the one we use to communicate. Why some people actually consider some things to be singing is beyond me!

Nothing merits respect anymore to anyone and people believe that just opening their mouth and letting whatever comes out come should be good enough to actually be considered singing because most of the population of the world has no or little technicah knowledge of what the human voice is or does beyond speaking, often speaking to music or vocalizing, is considered singing, when it isin't.

As a trained singer I will tell you who is a good performer and a good technical singer. Some people vocalize well or perform well, and some people sing well... and their ability is the entire performance.

No one can match Celine Dion live. Yeah I know, she is a goof ball and a hyperactive, Tony Robbins type weirdo but technically, her voice remains consistant both on stage and in the studio. A voice that sounds the same in the studio with a million dollars of effect making it better and cleaner and sounds the same live without as many, or any effects, is amazing and the way it SHOULD be.

Kelly Clarkson is the ONLY one of the americal Idol winners who is actually talented vocally. She is also consistent both in the studio and on stage live. Better in the studio... but she can pull it off.

Christina Augelera is one of the best singers out today... She just needs to quit... show boating her voice and making it into something it isin't.

As a performer (a vocalist) as in image wise (someone who vocalizes as opposed to sings) I believe that Imogene Heep, K.T. Tunstall and Tori Amos are fan freeking tastic!

Men.... Jared Leto is obviously trained... shows consistency live and memorex!
Davey Havoc has had some training and can be quite good live.

Vocalizers are; The dude from Angels and Airwaves is a good performer, the lead singer from Blue October, Chester from LP does an excellent job of screaming corectly (yes there is a correct way to scream!)

There are many great performers out there today but you can't really call any of them great singers... Not really.

The one's that annoy me are...

Beyonnce... She does try, but she just has an ugly tone and nasal quality I can't stand. It is tinney and offensive to my ear.

Shakira has the worst voice in the history of singing... but she is a fantastic performer.

Mariah Carey. Technically, she is completely incapable of performing live the way she does with the million dollar effects. (and she KNOWs it!) She is a Mic whisperer who has the producers clean her up and project her power for her, where she is supposed to be doing it herself via her breath. Far be it from a diva to ever do breathing exersizes huh?

Remember kiddies... Hitting a note and holding it along a melody line does not a good singer make. You have GOT to know what you're doing!

Nellie Furtado has a fantastic voice. I love Shakira's voice, but I wouldn't say its a beatiful voice. Too many singers are copy cats singing that horrible R&B light crap. Mariah Carey does have a super voice, don't care for her music but she can sing. I can't think of any male singers besides Nick Lowe who has a great voice that I care for.

I think Christina Aguilera has an amazing voice which is why i find her so sad. She has been told or believes that her true talent can not make her successful without constantly taking her clothes off.

Nora Jones has a gorgeous voice.....I find that though Christina Aguellera has a great vocal range, it is very hard to listen to her incessent wailing.
