Yeah a few times. Especially on the rescue squad when one of the new guys does some bonehead move, that doesn't really do any harm. New guys get all scared about making mistakes so I'll just say, "tell the chief I told you to do it that way".

Usually the chief's response if "Bullsh*t! Just make sure he knows the right way for the next time." But it helps guys learn the mistakes aren't a big deal, as long as they learn from them. (Unless somebody dies, then mistakes are a big deal.)

Yes, if that is what it took to get a project to move forward. sometimes people get so hung up on finding out who made something go wrong instead of moving on and correcting the situation that you cannot complete a project.

you can punish the guilty later, move forward, correct the situation and complete the project.

many times in a auto production plant, when they need a scapegoat I would say blame me and lets get back to building cars

must have worked, they let me retire ten years early and are still paying my full salary.
