Gays are not considered a race.
I'm going to take your question to the next level and surmise that "Gays are not entitled to civil rights protections because they are not a race".
Civil rights protections are guaranteed at the federal level in several categories: race, gender, religion, age, and disability.
There are two schools of thought on the origin of homosexuality; that it is inborn and genetic or that it is chosen.
Race and gender are both inborn characteristics, yet they are protected under federal anti-discrimination law. Therefore, sexual orientation should also be included.
Religion is a chosen affiliation and protected under federal anti-discrimination laws, therefore if sexual orientation is chosen it should also be included.
The end result is that whether sexual orientation is inborn or chosen, it should be included in civil rights protections.

Its not, its just a lifestyle, just like religion is not a race it is a lifestyle.
and like religion, people who do not believe in Gays will discriminate against them like people who do not believe in the same religion as you.

It isn't. Straight, lesbian...that is ORIENTATION not Race. Race is Black, White...etc
