I don't know what is the computer's cause of death: I started it today and it was sounding really loud and Windows started but didn't finish loading. So, I'm guessing it's a hardware thing and not viruses or malware (I run the anti-virus and anti-spyware a day before and it was fine). Yesterday, everything was fine (or at least I think it was).
There should be a way of getting the hard disk out of the laptop and somehow connect to another computer. How does it go? If any of you have a good idea and have the time to walk me through the process I would be extremely grateful!
Thanks in advance
Daniel
ps: the laptop is a toshiba satellite A15-S129

You can buy an adapter for laptop harddrives that allow you to connect them to another computer via usb or IDE. You just need to remove the drive from the laptop and use the adapter. Try searching for one on newegg.com
Here is one I foud:

If you have a floppy drive and access to another computer, go to www.bootdisk.com and download a boot image. As long as the drive is still physically OK, your files should still be on it, even if the OS doesn't boot. You can then copy your files to floppy (or if you find a disk with USB drivers, a thumb drive) through DOS commands. If you're not familiar with command line usage, you might want to have an oldschool geek help you out.

well since your pc actually turns on, and the most important this is to recover data, all you'll proberly need is another pc, and a software program like:
http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm?gclid=CMuoioG5-IYCFQdMQgodshebdg
this should do the job.
One other and perhaps easier solution, could be to on your pc, click f8 or f4 or f10(dont remember which), and start windows in "protected mode", if successfull copy your most important data to whatever storage device for protection.
Now run a program like "www.tune-up.com"

go to computer shop ask for hard disk case for laptop, insert your hard disk inside the case, that case is having a usb cable which will enable you to plug in in any computer having a usb port.

The "loud noise" could be the HDD itself as Windows failed to load.
If this is the case you may not be able to retrieve your data easily.
All laptops are not built equally (unlike desktops) and certain devices, shuch as hard drives and the like, are located in different locations and sometimes require that you pull the whole thing apart just to get the hard drive out.
I would strongly sugest that you have a qualified tech remove the HDD for you.
You can then install the HDD into and external USB HDD case and connect that to a desktop PC and see if you can retrieve your data.

If asking the help of a computer expert is not on your list but you have an extra laptop or a desktop, you might retrieve data stored in your hard drive by doing the following:
1. Remove the target hard disk.
2. Set the jumper in slave position.
3. Connect it to the IDE cable of your other computer's hard disk. It has another slot.
4. Reboot the new computer and the laptop drive should appear.
