Would having and then reversing a vasectomy have any adverse effects for a couple hoping to have children later?

It does lessen the chances of concieving later. My huband and I have seriously considered trying to have another since life is starting to work out but he has been "fixed" for 6 years and the drs. say it takes about 10% away for each year that he has been. Even if it's a relatively newer operation depending on the procedure it can be very hard to reverse. Good luck to you

The only issue is that reversal might not work. They can reattach the two cut ends of the of the vas deferens, but it's possible it will not work...it could develop scar tissue at the location of reattachment, or the tubes might not stay attached. All of the man parts that make sperm are still in tact only the tube that delivers the sperm has been compromised. It can't hurt to try. Good luck.

Reversing a vasectomy doesn't always work. A man shouldn't have one thinking that he can change his mind later.

Also with any surgery there is a chance of complications, such as infection, reaction to anesthesia, blood clots, etc.

Bottom line, if he thinks he may want kids later, use another form of birth control!

Checke to make sure you are fertile after wards, Then once you are sure you are practice practice practice
and be prepared the them having to extract sperm directly and use in vitro fertilization to make it happen. Those that have it reversed are not 100% functional in every case. That is a fact, you may have to explore other options for that reason,.
