i get severe migraines and they hurt like hell. they can be caused by a number of things. sometimes by the food you eat (MSG in alot of Asian cuisines contributes to migraines, nuts, dairy products, chocolate, cheese etc) or it could be caused by a hormonal imbalance (usually affects females during their menstrual cycle) or the cause could be muscular (having extremely tightened and shortened muscles in the upper back, neck and scalp region). if you speak to your doctor about it they may try various medications and ways to treat your migraines. I currently take a tablet everyday called 'Inderal' which vasodialates the tiny blood vessels that constrict during a migraine, its just a preventative method but i guess its better than nothing. speak to your doctor for individual treatment as this conditions varies with each person. Good luck.

I take what I call my "Migraine Cocktail" I take two or three Tylenol 1's or equivalent, a cup of coffee then a nap for about an hour. Any pain reliever will probably work and the coffee acts as a vaso-restrictor. The migraine is caused by a sudden dilation of the arteries so the effect of the coffee should help to reverse that. And the nap make it all go away until the coffee and pain reliever take effect. Also, if you try to nap immediately after the cup of coffee then the caffeine will not have taken effect yet and you still should be able to fall asleep.
