We have a small garden so most of our planting is done in containers, we have no room to dispose of used compost, but can it be re-used, re-cycled or what??

You can recycle it. Tip it all in a heap, add some fertilizer and water it, and in a short while you'll have new potting compost. Letting the air get to it and adding fertilizer and water does a good job. If you can add some soil too, that's even better. I recycle all mine that way and the plants do just fine.
