Do you feel discrimination is more, or less, in the workplace, as far as racial, male/female? Please no harsh responses, that is not what this is about. I am just looking for your feelings. Thanx in advance.

I feel that the work environment is far less discriminatory now than it was at any time in the history of the world. I have one caveat though, I believe that people have become so sensitive to disrimination that it is almost impossible to have fun at work. No matter how hard you try, any action you take will offend someone. I believe that we need to assume that when someone offends us it is not because they are trying to discriminate. I know that there are still some people that have not gotten on the bandwagon as far as leaving discrimination behind; but we need to go forward; grow thicker skins, and let insults roll off of us; and only react when there is evidence that someone is being malicious in his or her attack. In this way we can reduce the impact of discrimination on our daily lives.

I have an example: When I work with someone of African descent I am often nervous about it at first, not because I dislike black people but because the most vocal members of the african-american community are always talking about how racist people are. I withhold judgment about whether I like someone until I have gotten to know a little bit about them but I have this fear that if I decide that I just don't get along with an african american coworker it will be percieved as racism and discrimination, but the truth is some people just get under my skin and I don't enjoy their company, the color of their skin does not matter to me.

I know that discrimination is in the eye of the beholder. Time and time again, I see folks crying "RACISM!" where it truly does NOT exist. Some people LOOK for it. Expect it. Use it and exploit it as a way of life. My thoughts??? Give it a ******* rest. Please. Enough already. Live your life and stop using this as an excuse for the sorry state of your life.. It's YOU! Not your race...NOT your culture. Determined people overcome all kinds of set backs and obstacles. Stop your whining and get on with it. It's over. Grow up.
