I'm trying to find what textbooks to buy because I don't want to wait until classes began..because I know for sure that the textbook store on campus will be very expensive and crowded as well...I need someone who is also going to Umass Amherst to answer my question...I tried searching for the courses on Spire but I can't find where they tell us what textbooks to buy..I heard from a friend that you cn look it up.. but where do you????

I want to buy it online now before I move onto campus...many of my friends are doing that. Thanks

It's very hard to say for sure, you can find someone who has gone to the school and been in the courses you will be taking. From my experience every year they come out with the same book but a "new" edition. Basically, its the same book with the same pages but they are on different pages.

Like page 77 in the 2006 edition may be on page 81 in the 2007 edition. They do this so they can make money otherwise people would be buying used books!

Good luck at school! I considered going there - - perhaps next term!

The UMass bookstore would have that information. At least when I was in college (in SC), the lists were posted on the walls of the room where all of the textbooks were sold.

Your question though makes me wonder if you already know what courses you will be taking. If you don't know that, you won't know what books you need.

Either go to the Umass bookstore or call them for required texts. Ask for ISBN numbers so you can be sure you are buying the right edition for your classes. Once you have the ISBN you can buy books from Amazon, Half.com or many other online book stores. Good luck!

Call the Umass bookstore. They should have the list of required texts from the instructors

Try emailing the professor and asking for the booklist. Most profs are absolutely horrified by the state of college bookstores today and will gladly provide you with a list if you explain that you want to buy them cheaper somewhere else.
