Well? I listen to the Beatles, U2, and Pearl Jam. I think modern music is rank. Why is that?

Because it is all based on formula production now
It's not about the music or the lyrics -- it's about the money
that's the intent and the focus
the day of music coming from the heart and from the emotions at the root of it all--- is over
It has come to the thing of who can continue to make the A B C of the demigraphics work --using all the latest gadgits and hoopty doo in the studio !!! A real shame !!!

I agree somewhat. I love the bands you mentioned. The mainstream music sucks, but there are some gems if you're willing to search for them. But if you don't want to there are plenty of old bands that you can listen too. If you want to search for songs that are like The Beatles or U2 or Pearl Jam go to http://pandora.com they let you enter in your favorite band or favorite song and then will generate music that is like it. I've found some really good bands that I love that way.

i dont know but i totally agree, and my 3 favorites are pj, u2 and the beatles too. they are pretty much all i listen to, along with the who and a couple others. modern music doesnt have any talent, musically, or vocally. its just very trendy, which means it will fade. good music sticks around generation to generation. and if you listen to some bands now, they sound like they are just trying to be copycats of the older generation, history does not repeat, stick to the roots, youve got good taste.

I agree with you on a certain level. All my favorite bands (U2, INXS, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Boomtown Rats, Virgin Prunes, Nirvana, Talking Heads and list goes on)are older bands but I do like some newer bands like Keane, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Nickelback, Audioslave, modest Mouse, and stuff like that. But there are a lot of shite bands out there. I hate rap and bands like panic!!!!!!!! at the disco.

... because the music and culture industry is in the buisness of selling product, not making "art".

The music industry of today (now more than ever) is all about cashing in on the latest teen-craze, creating boy-bands and half-naked girl groups with slick visual videos to sell millions of copies of their latest CD, which will be soon forgotten when another product comes along and ends up being a clone of all the previous ones, except being more recent in delivery, appears "fresh".

The music industry is exactly that: an industry which has one main goal; make more money. The culture industry has quickly realised that you don't make profit out of originality or artistic endeavours, but rather from an eye-pleasing image and non-threatening/conformist audio soundtrack.

Music today "sucks" because it is no longer music in the original meaning of art, but rather organised over-produced drivel which acts simply as a backing track to a slick visual stimuli.

However, out of modern music came bands like PANASONIC and VROMB which defy most categorization and still continue to sell their albums regardless of the fact they have no videos nor image to sell.

i have to agree with you on that one. i think it sux so bad because they have never heard "real" music and dont know what it sounds like. and as for pink floyd, i dont think any other band could sound so awesome.
