It is claimed by some that the people of Ruspidge shot and killed a dancing bear belonging to a Frenchman. This is partially true, as the bear was indeed shot at Ruspidge, but not by the good people there. It was them there hooligans from Zindyford who did it.
A passing Frenchman with his dancing bear attempted to ply his trade in Cinderford, I can't remember the actual reason why; although I have this memory that the people thought the bear was Satan; a Hue and Cry was fromed and the man and bear were chased out of Cinderford, and the bear was eventually shot in Ruspidge. Several men were taken to Court, I can remember reading the Court records, 2 I think were fined.
