My girlfriend likes to swallow a chewing gum. She never takes it out from her mouth. She chews it and when doessn't want to have it anymore simply swallows and sends to her stomach. She does it so often that when she puts a gum in her mouth I know that I won't see her gum out anymore because after she doesn't like to have it in her mouth swallows it. She swallows them very easily in seconds the gums slide down her throat and it is gone. She tells me that she easily digest them but anyway I am afraid, isn't it dangerous?

Well it isn't good regardless how much she swallows or even how often she swallows. There is a common myth we all have probably heard sometime or another in our life that it takes 7 years to digest chewing gum. I believe it too, one time we done a project on chewing gum just to see if we could solve that myth about the 7 years. well we never figured out exactely how long it would take to digest but we did figure out that it doesn't break up easily in your somach, that is the reason we chew our food. The gum could get stuck in her pipes or stuck to the side of her tummy and just keep forming up (depends on how much she swallows in a days time) until her stomach is smaller, It does take it awhile to digest properly. Come on it's gum for sakes, It won't kill you but it's not good for you either.

No it is not dangerous.

Doesn't the fact that she's still around tell you it is not dangerous? No worries. It goes through your digestive system like everything you swallow. 2 days tops unless you are congested but that is not due to swallowed gum.

I read once it could get stuck in the pipe on the way down but I think this was a myth as basically anything could technically get stuck on the way down.

It'll just go through the system and out as per everything else.

I don't think it's dangerous unless she's swallowing abnormal amounts, but it might become uncomfortable when her body eliminates it if it becomes a hardened lump in her bowels.

No, its not dangerous - it just passes through the system. Its an "old wives tale" that it just sits in your body undigested for years.

well she wont digest it..and its a common myth that it stays in your system for 7 years..but that is also untrue...it will just pass through her system in the next day and it will come out..well...you know where...

on a regular basis yea maybe..it takes a long time to digest though..years usually..so a buildup will cause problems inevitably yea

No. It just passes through the GI tract.
