There are no nominees, everyone is eligible. The writers vote on whoever they think is the MVP, and the vote isn't done until that last day of the season.
And who cares, its just a popularity contest and who gives the writers, who vote, the best interviews during the year.

Alex Rodriguez doesn't have a shot in the dark for AL MVP, neither does Giambi.
David Ortiz probably has the best chance for AL MVP then maybe Travis Hafner in a close second.
Ryan Howard and Albert Pujols are definitely the front 2 for the NL MVP, Beltran....eh, maybe, if only because he has a little over a dozen stolen bases on top of his power numbers. If Soriano had more RBIs he'd be a contender because he has 30+ stolen bases.

What I love is that NOONE has mentioned a pitcher. Why? I think that Liriano is not only RotY in the AL, but the friggin MVP as well.
edit:I didnt see that someone had said Santana. Still, Liriano is better.

NL - is between Pujols & Beltran...and if the phils get in, Howard may double dip!!
AL is a little more difficult, it is really wide open. but it starts with Ortiz, Manny, Giambi, Morneau, Dye, and beleive it or not.....A Rod
