This is not only a problem for you. Others can tell the same story. It seems the sight unseen mode of the site has stung many people.

You can contact any eBay seller by clicking on the "Ask seller a question" link on the item page. This feature enables you to send an email to a seller, even if you have not yet bid on or purchased the item.
Tip: Once you've won an item, the End of Auction email that eBay sends you contains the seller's email address. If you misplaced your End of Auction notice or other information from the seller after you win an item, you can always return to the item and contact them from the "Ask seller a question" link on the item page.
To see a list of all items you've won:
Click the My eBay button at the top of any page;
Click the ”Won” link in the left column;
Click the item. To contact the seller, click the “Ask seller a question” link.
If you cannot contact the seller by email after you purchase an item, or you don't receive a response, you should request their contact information and call them. Remember, in order to obtain this information about another member, you have to be involved in a transaction with them.
Request a seller's contact information.

Check out the sellers feedback - you can gauge how reputable the seller is. Give him some time to respond also - there are days i don't have a chance to check my email. If you don't trust your instincts, don't bid - with ebay there will always be another set available.

Don't bid yet, there's no rush if there are still two days left. There is no other way to reply but if you don't hear back by the end of the auction, I think it would be better to be safe than sorry. If a seller is uncommunicative I usually decide he/she doesn't deserve my business.

Beware of the seller if they have not answered your email. I would wait another day and if you do not receive an answer forget bidding on the item and try another.

It could be the buyer is ignoring you. Try reading the item description throuroughly. Most of the time it anwers the question a buyer asks me. Sometimes asking a more specific question like "Is there any nicks or chips in any of the chess pieces" will get a response when asking "is there any damage".
