There are several in my family on both sides and it goes back five or six generations..
I have a niece named after me..and .she was born on my birthday too.
It is considered an honor.

Our current president's name is George Walker Bush. His father's name is George Herbert Walker Bush. Not exactly the same. Current President Bush is not a "Jr." Former President Bush is referred to as "Sr." to differentiate the two.
We had a similar situation before with president John Adams and President John Quincy Adams.
