Snape is a dark person. The color black is an excelelnt portrayal of his cold, gloomy demeanor. Also, as a Slytherin, it doesn't hurt to dress in colors that blend into the background of the dungeons.

black is a colour that does not reflect any light(I mean, it sort of absorb all colours and reflect none, Physics lessons are far away). Similarly, Snape does not reflect any thing of his inner self. So black matches well with him. But from the bit that's obvious, I think he's an imotional idiot and coward, talent isn't everything in life, you see.
