If it NEVER Worked, I would suspect that you do not have the correct CHIPSET drivers for that motherboard, and that the USB drivers have not been installed.

If you RIGHT CLICK on My Computer and pick PROPERTIES then click on the HARDWARE tab and click on the DEVICE MANAGER button, you will see a number of yellow flags that show that many devices have bad drivers. The Universal Serial Bus Controller section might be missing completely.

IF you have the mothboard driver disk, start with updating the Chipset driver. If there is a USB driver set on the disk, update that also.

If you do not have a disk for that Motherboard, check the manufacturer's website. If they have nothing, then try http://www.driverguide.com

Good luck

The USB ports are dead.

Sometimes the case might have a USB in front but it leads to nothing on the inside.Open the case & check

Your plug on the inside might not be plugged in.

If you have a warrant, take it back although they might refuse if you already opened the case or tampered with the machin in other ways.

i agree with danuitti. if the usb where dead then you wouldn't be able to charge the ipod. they are on in cmos as well, same reason. if you were running 98 you would be able to go into dos and see that they are actually working (the power is there, it's driver related)

or activate the usb in the bios

or in your setting you don't allow file sharing
