I think by indians you mean Hindus as I think you are muslim and I need not tell you about Muslim rules.
Hindus are allowed to marry only once in their life. Exception only when the couple cannot bear a child for the reasons the wife is not up to it and that she agrees the second marriage.

Dowry.
The girls parents arrange dowry for the boys parents which is agreed upon at the time of the match making. Generally the parents of the girl are willing to pay higher dowry for a better life for their daugher. So a doctor, Engineer or a high govt official can muster a higher dowry. Most Indian women end up being house wives so a high wage earner is very much in demand.

Divorce - under no circumstance divorce is allowed in religion.

But Indian laws (being secular and I prefer that) allows divorce which has to be filed -- details I do not know) As for the rights of the husband and wife - I do not know the legal clauses.
