You allow them to effect you. I couldn't care less. If I like something, I buy it. And re: Halifax, I know many black people who have accounts there, maybe that's why they do it. So what? If you're satisfied with their services, why switch? If not, find a real reason why you want to change to another bank. And I would be happy if I could shop at Asda, there's no store in my vicinity. I think you are very childish and should get a life.

I'd like to think that I'm able ignore ads completely - although lately I've found my self wondering if the new 5in1 power dishwasher tablet really is better than the old supposedly inferior 4in1 version..
Maybe I should stop watching telly?
God I hate ads - they're such a waste of my time...If I turn on the box it's to be entertained to to be bombarded with cillit bang and the likes there of... and who gives a toss about kitche roll anyways..call me a cheap skate but I go for best value ALL THE TIME...I don't care if it has Flowers teddies or Puppies on there..
To me adds are like waiting at the red light when there's nobody coming from the other direction... a waste of time.
apologies for rant..
(hushed voice - consumerism is evil!)

When making ads, companies have various goals - one is to increase sales, which obviously won't work with you. But one is to raise brand awareness. This has worked with you: you think you won't buy at Asda or Halifax or wherever, but in fact the advert has achieved its purpose, which is to make the name of the company stick in your mind. In 2 or 3 years time you won't remember the annoying ad but you will remember the name 'Halifax' when thinking of banks. Job done.

I agree, although adverts are generally aimed at a demographic. So the advertisers tend to aim for the largest ammount of people they can 'hook'.
I think a lot of companies don't take enough risks when it comes to advertising. the most memorable adverts are usually the weird ones or the ones that are out of the norm.
My best tip is to get Sky+ and never watch anything live, that way you can fast forward every advert!

The irritating adverts make you remember more what they are advertising than the ones you enjoy watching. You are so distracted by what is going on that you dont know what they are advertising. But yes they do put me off though.
Cillit Bang, Admiral.com, Elephant.co.uk, Shiela's Wheels, Frosties, Halifax.

I don't think adverts are relevant anymore as most people switch channels when they come on. My little boy knows that adverts are just a way of stealing your money and he is only 8! I HATE the ambulance chasing ones too!!

Some might...but most don't.
E.g. AAMI Insurance's 'lucky you're with AAMI' Campaign proved so true when I had my car accident and I got a cheque within 5 working days, I choose this company because of their ads.
Comm Banks ads where the woman can't reach the parking ticket dispenser and she hits her car door on the pole ring a bell lol
