Well, you have to keep in mind that good hygiene is the best answer if you don't wanna smell bad. Personally though, I don't use deodorants (because I have a highly sensitive skin - that means I'm more prone to skin discolouration). What I do, after taking a bath is I use astringent as my deo and I put Virgin Coconut Oil before I go to sleep at night. That keeps me from having a bad body ordor and dark and chicken-skinned underarms. :)

i make my own deodorant of Vaseline and boric acid mix them together until a white paste is made just rob a Little bit under the arms it works well

it's tru that deodorants may cause gland irritation in your armpits, and that really hurts, plus it may cause other complications in the long run.. i just use sprays or roll ons and I aply it off the gland area.. if you are overly sensitive try finding some natural scent to use

I cannot and would not go without deodorant . But if it is cause of your skin , perfume .

I know people who are devout vegan(completly raw veg at that) and they don't seem to need any deodorant

we there are special powders you can buy like summers eve and other name brands that is meant to absorb oders and prevent you from stinking. Never tried it in the underarm area but hey it should work.
