With all of the talks about computer jobs being outsourced to other countries, would it be better to major in something else?

That field is alive and well every place on earth. What matters is what you want to do in the field. Programing is so crowded now that you have to be extremely good to get very far. Research is very lucrative now and will be for some time. Computer science comers a vast array of opportunities so there are very good jobs any place. Research what is needed and head in that direction.

In a competitive era everybody will flock towards the most lucrative profession and the supply increases and if demand is not increased correspondingly then the prices fall. This discourages the students and naturally the supply falls. This is pure economics. One thing for sure if you excel in computers particularly in C & C++ with Java as backbone then there are hundreds of people flocking behind you because everybody require the best & young people to keep their compainies in the forefront.
