I've had my deep freezer for 2 years and I know it needs to be defrosted but I'm not sure how to do it or what to do with everything in it. I always have it quite full. It's a small/medium sized one.

Well sounds like me and you are in the same boat..I also have a freezer I have to defrost..And it isn't always easy.I move all stuff in the freezer to the bottom. And then I use a ice pick and hammer to bust out the ice ..That way it comes out in big chunks and I just put it in the sink to melt. The stuff won't defrost that quick if you do it all at once..Then I sometime use a blow dryer when it's not real bad like every 2 months or sooner but If I get lazy and the ice gets really bad I use a ice pick..Just remember the food in it won't melt to fast but if you leave heavy ice in it..It will cause freezer burn and it will run your electric bill up.Cause the freezer will not be working properly..Oh and one more plus if you have ice cream in there ..You get to have a ice cream party before the work...Hope this helps..Oh one more think before using a hair dryer make sure to unplug the freezer and keep the hair dryer and cord away from the water and ice..Good luck Melody

First thing I would do is upgrade my freezer to a defrosted one. However, today what I would do is defrost the food and call all your friends and have a party. Just let us know when and where. Now that takes care of the food, then would be a great time to upgrade!!!!

you need to place the contents in a well sealed box or a cooler of some type . i would say defrost every 6-8 months as needed.

Put what's most likely to thaw quickly in the coolers, and you can defrost it pretty quickly using a hair dryer. I use it on my mother-in-law's, and the pieces of ice will fall off in chunks.
