Only you can answer that question I'm afraid, different things affect different people. One think peppermint seems to help a lot of people you can even get prescription peppermint oil. As a general rule Try to avoid spicy food and anything with a lot of MSG (mono-sodium glutamate) (Chinese food) as this food seems to be a problem for a lot of people. The best thing you can do is to (under supervision please) is to cut out a lot of food stuffs and slowly reintroduce them and see what happens or and you can do this one without supervision, keep a food and symptom diary, its a simple thing to do record what you eat in one columnn with date and time in another colum rate your symptoms from 0 to 10, 0 being no symptoms 10 being have'nt been able to leave the toilet all day. Periodically look at the results and look for a pattern, this can be done extremely well in Excel, one thing though keep it up do not stop if you do that will be the time you get a 10. Also if you can be bothered it may help to use quantities because 50 grammes might be okay 75 might not!

If you see a GP they will refer you to a specialist - a dietician I'm guessing.

They will put you on an exclusion diet which starts of very basic, and then you introduce new foods each week and if you get a bad reaction from any of these foods, you know to avoid them in the future.

I know someone that had this and when she went on the exclusion diet she found that she was getting reactions from quite random things like gravey!

There's probably a book out there that tells you how to do a DIY exclusion diet if the waiting list is really long. Search for irratable bowel syndrome on amazon or something.
