Birds, generally, Stick their bums out of the nest to poo...the ones in nest boxes poo in a nice little package for their parents to take away...in essence it means do not foul up your own living space!

I live in a nest and have never yet sh4t in it - I did p1ss in a well once, and I have been known to sh1t in my own backyard, but as luck may have it never my nest. I just like my nest in a sh1t-free state, basically.
Perhaps you should ask the Bear, I heard he Sh1ts in the woods; maybe he'd know......

Generally it means don't cause potential problems in a way or place where you may have to face them again. Though I've never heard that particular version of the phrase. It more often that not apply to one form of relationship or another. I more popular version is, "Don't s**t where you sleep."

It has the same meaning as 'What goes around comes around' or like what they say in India 'If you spit upwards it will land on your own face' - dont ask me where that came from!

Same place as the saying 'don't s***t on your own doorstep'. It means don't do things you don't want people to know about near your own area, cos you'll get found out.

Explorers found the dodo bird, and it's cause of death wasn't really from everyone eating it, like all the history books say, but from the diseases it caught when doing this.

dont sh1t on your own doorstep is one im familiar with. example dont sleep with you nextdoor neighbour and then not call her. because its too close too home and you will have to deal with it at some point, where as a girl on the otherside of town is alright

Never heard of that, but in the UK there's one that goes 'Don't sh*t on your own doorstep' which basically means not to get involved in any wrong-doings where people know you.

Don't pee in your own front yard... Don't sample from the company well. Don't burn bridges...They are all precausionary warnings.
Don't date someone from work. If it goes bad.... It will be hard to continue working there.
Don't distroy something that you will later need.
