A person is straight edge when they don't do any drugs, including smoking and alcohol. Some even go so far as to not take any medicines.
Being straight edge can also include not having sex, but I know a lot of people don't follow that.

Any object, especially a ruler, which has a straight side you can use to draw a straight line from. I've used all kinds of things, from the edge of a board to the side of a notepad, but the ruler works best.
