I am going to give a 30+ minute oral report on the topic "Homosexuality" to my fellow students in a Human Sexuality course. This is a college level course to a group of mostly young heterosexuals. While I have more than enough material, my problem is narrowing it down.

Please answer the question(s) below in the category that fits you.

For my LGBT FAMILY:
What information would you want to make sure that the heterosexual population knows about us? Are there any sub-topics that you think are an absolute MUST when educating others?

For the HETEROSEXUAL POPULATION:
What do you want to know about homosexuals? Please, suggest ANYTHING. What topics would interest you if you were listening to a 30 minute oral report on the subject?

Either specific questions or broad general ideas will be appreciated. All answers will be seriously considered. If you don't want to answer publicly, please email me privately.

Thank you so much for any help you can give me!

How about "urban myths" about sexual practices, fallacies in HIV prevention, and a Q&A session?

I think that straight people need to know that the only similarity between the average gay man, and the characters on Queer as Folk (same goes for womyn/L-Word) is incidental. We are really much more LIKE straight people than we are different.

I would be more inclined to letting them know about how hard most young gays and lesbians have because they can not feel like themselves. They feel like they have to "fit in". I would also tell them about the facts that AIDS and HIV is not a 'gay disease' and that most whom carried it indeed was "straight" people. Tell them how it originated and then how it was transferred. Then if you really feel up to it....bring up the debate on equal rights and why that gay couples can't be privledged to have them....

Good luck with your report!

How about the prevalence of homosexuality and bisexuality throughout the animal kingdom?

I'd run a field trip to a gay movie theater or bathhouse. Your report will never be forgotten.

Whatever you do, give out condoms and lube at the end. "Safe sex or no sex."

i think you should tell them that you cannot look at somebody and tell they are gay- that these things are just myths. also, they should not treat us like we are not human beings. so tolerance would be another issue i would raise. but good on you for trying to make a differenc. goodluck
