The World Series is the only true world-sporting event, where the best team plays in the best league with the best players. Unlike the European Football leagues, they have a league for each country, and elite teams in it so since they don’t all play against each other you may never actually know who the best team is. In baseball, the cream raises to the top so to speak and the best team wins. Because MLB will and does find the best players from around the world and have them play in the league, below is a list of some countries that have had players play in the World Series.

Aruba, Austria, Australia, Bahamas, Colombia, Cuba, Curacao, Czechoslovakia, Dominican Republic, England, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Panama, Poland, Russia, Scotland, South Korea, South Vietnam, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, Virgin Island, Venezuela, and Wales just to name a few

At the time of the first World Series the American League had recently been formed to compete with the established National League. It was a fledgling operation and no one knew whether or not it would succeed. In order to help the new league a newspaper called The World sponsored a series. "World" Series.

Because the best baseball in the world is played in the US (and Canada) If the other countries had players that could compete at this level, they'd be drafted and they'd play in the US and if they were good enough they'd play in the World Series.

Because our world is the only world that matters.
So it should be called the "Our World" Series.

Actually, foos, the series originated when a local newspaper called "The World" or "World News" decided to sponsor a basball competition.
But it's fun to see the Idiot Brits getting all wound up over this.

Canada used to be involved, but you have a point. I would love to see some true international competition, say between the US and Japan - where baseball is pretty popular.
