Multiculturalism can't work if it simply means many cultures living side by side with no interaction. That's good for no-one and has no social value. All communities should be involved in the debate as all have something to contribute. I live in a street which is very racially mixed and while I am happy to be here and there is no social tension it could all be so much better if the people actually had an understanding of each other. Hopefully this will not simply be a popularity soapbox for Ruth Kelly and the government and something positive comes from it. We owe it to our children. We owe it to all children.

Hey, New Labia have been shouting down critics of their open door immigration policy by branding dissenters racists. Some of it was level headed common sense (but I don't mean voting for BNP was level headed - that is always lunatic).

Only now have they discovered the reverse gear on their home office policy, and are getting desperately stuck, trying to perform the customary U turn.

I want to know what progress they have made, trying to track down those dangerous 1000+ dangerous foreign criminals (which includes murderers, paedophiles, rapists and violent sociopaths) they 'accidentally' set free, rather than deport, as was to have been the court decision.

They should have had this debate months ago. Seems like they're trying to ram the gate shut, after the horse has already bolted.

Without wishing to sound racist...its about time the Government started asking the indigenous people of this country what they think instead of constantly asking the new visitors what they would like. If you go to another Country then respect the existing laws, do not complain because they won,t change them to suit you. If you don't like the way a Country is run, why go to that Country to live?
