In Australia, we call 'french fries' chips and potato chips (as in the ones you buy in the bags- pringles, smiths, etc.) chips too.
It can get confusing, but I'd feel so weird saying 'french fries' and my friends would probably all disown me if I did too, heheh :-P

They are both good, but I beleive that the french fries are much better for you. They contain less salt and are a good source of carbs.

Excuse my ignorance, but are they not the same thing... they are in Ireland anyway dunno bout the rest of the world, unless you're American and by chips you mean crisps, in which case one's a snack and the other's part of a meal so you can't really compare.
