They worship the same God in different forms. Like you seek justice from the Government by going to the department concerned. All exercise the legal authority of the Government in different capacities working in different domains. So according to your requirement only that aspect of God is sought what is relevant to you in that particular situation. Otherwise, for Hindus there is only one bi-sexual God who is worshipped as the Mother, the Father, the Friend, the Companion, the Philosopher and the solvent in which every thing gets dissolved.

In the first place, Hinduism is not considered as a religion, it is a philosophy, a way of life. Religions started happening much after and today it is like those who dont belong to any religion are Hindus. It was never supposed to be slotted or branded as a sect.
People before the advent of various other modern religions used to believe in what used to provide them soccour or benevolence as god. Each virtue was represented by one of the "gods" basically they were there to guide the clan.
Hinduism doesnt force you to believe in any god, it tries to lead one towards spiritual learning, all the "Gods" are a part of the narratives. It basically emphasises the fact that god is everywhere and even within you. Whatever you believe is god and not the other way round.
Like with any other religion, there evolved self styled "representatives of gods" who for their vested interests propogated and Marketed different "Gods"

There is only one God for Hindus, which you cannot see or grasp. Therefore, for different people, this abstract image of God can take different shapes. Everyone, even Christians and Muslim, Jews and all other existing religions worship "their" God or gods, but in the end they all worship the same Divine presence.
This is why in Hinduism it is ok to worship different gods, they are all part of the whole, just like all humans on the world are humankind, all gods are just one God in fact, who takes on different shapes, just like people are black or white or weatish or anything else.
I hope I was able to answer your question, though I don't know whether you were asking it in an honest interest to understand it.

Hi, God is a matter of belief. God exists for those who believes and does exist for those who are atheist. Similarly, the existance of God depend upon person to person. Hindu religion says about Dharma ( Dharma means that which can be followed ). It also says that believing in God is important not forms of God.Just like to achieve a destination one can choose thousands of path. Similarly, there is one God but thousands of it's form. One is free to choose the form.

I believe in god.For u I can say-"there is only one god ,if you are the ONLY surviver in this Universe".Hindu's do believe the same.
They used to treat every human as divine(....i am referring to
the time when the hinduism get enlightened...) and as there are
3 crore people in the world at that time they do have 3 crore god's and goddessess. Now,ofcourse these fellows let the root idea into
air and started to treat god as a partition for communities.

First of all i will tell u why god came to exisence? The name god came to existence to regulate people or Human beings in the society in a proper manner and give them certain kind of discpline to live in the society and certain cyclogical pressue will get eased when certain happenings ur unable to tell anybody that will be shared with God in secrecy and u will leave the solution to him.
In the olden days when the existence of human beings came to surface they use to worship nature as god. After some year elders in the society saw people are not strict in worshipping and lot of bad elements encroached in the society.
Then the elders in the society decided we will give abnormal shape to the god. that is four hands three eyes and so on. Then this act prevailed on the bad elements and peacefulness returned.
U know Hindu is ancient religion and there was no bar in worshipping for others or preaching to others in any form. So everybody given there own shape, own name to regulate the society. In the information age we can know what is happening in the corner of the world.
But in olden days the information will pass but not the shape or not the name. So everywhere they gave whatever name they want and whatever way they want to worship depends upon the type of people. Certain places u will see Kali as been worshipped, certain places lord muruga as been worshipped, certain places lord venkateswara as been worshipped, depends upon the society or the peoples atttitude this came to existence.
Nowadys Hindus are going to temple but they will have one principal god for the whole family members. They call as our main god for the family is -------.
If u believe in God I can say there is only one supernatural power that u can call in any form. It can be called as God in any name like Jesus, Allah, Krishna, Rama, Venkateswara, any thing. But all related to some supernatural power only. Regulating ur mind, ur action, ur responsiveness towards the society that is god. Man created the god, religion, caste based on there dominations in the society.
It is only human being creation not created by God.Even the word God created by a human being. Todays world Putaparithi Sai Baba is worshipped by certain people, after 200 years there will be a sect which will follow him as a God. Furthere 200 years we will have stories pertaining to him his sacrifice etc. That is the way all as been created.
I bored u a lot. Whatever unwanted knowledge i got i shared with you.
Regards
Varadan

Actually under the rule of Akhenaten in the 18th dynasty of Ancient Egypt monotheism became the vogue. The names of other gods were defaced from monuments and as much as they were able to do it one god became the standard mode of expression for that country. Prior to that there was no such idea. I suppose it is only natural for people to espouse monotheism as believers do not want others to challenge their beliefs by putting up other gods along with one's own. However it is a sign of insecurity to feel threatened by such things but then as beiefs can't be proven the believers feel paranoid by alternative expressions

Yes This question araised to us many times. But what i heard and believe that God is one but names are many. What is the problem let they worship in different type in different name finally they are worshiping god. that is only required. There is a god with us even then we are going to temple why? otherwise we are forgetting the God who is there with us.
I can give you best example. we are eating vegitables and grains if we are a vegitarian. but all people not eating both in same style. some body do like to do idly, dosa and have it. and some do other like rice bath, pongal etc ultimately they are eating the basic thing. like that worshiping the god also in different name and kind according to their satisfaction. i think no wrong in it.
any way good question to answer.
Thanks

In reality each community eventually believes that there is really only one Great God. Other gods are basically worshipped as intercessors to the one Great God. Christians when referring to their God say God Almighty, Muslims as Allah and Hindus as Bhagawan. They do not refer to these intermediary gods as God Almighty, Allah and Bhagawan, do they?
