Do you find that your backaches more when you are moving during early pregnancy? I just leant down to turn a fan of and my lower back (and i mean low - just before my bum) was so stiff! Does anyone get this pain, that low and more when you move?

It's quite common. Just be careful how you bend down and only bend down when you need to. Put your feet up and relax more.

Make sure you aren't bending over at the waist to do stuff. Squat when you need to get low! Be sure to lift with your legs if you are picking stuff up.

Consider seeing a massage therapist during your pregnancy. I saw one at least once a month through all three of my PGs and it helped SO MUCH. You'll have less pregnancy aches and pains. You'll learn to relax fully, which will be helpful in labor. And you'll keep your body in balance, which will make labor easier.

As low as you're describing your pain, it sounds to me like it might be either your sacrum or more likely your coccyx that is bothering you. I'd suggest having your partner use either his hands or a tennis ball to apply counterpressure in that area. It might help.

You can also try doing some pelvic rocking and see if that makes you more comfortable.

At night, try lying on your left side with a pillow between your knees and another one behind your back.

I've never suffered from backache, but what I have found in pregnancy is that I wake up feeling very stiff sometimes. I don't think there's anything wrong with my bed or mattress, it must just be the pregnancy hormones affecting the ligaments in my back. Can be a bit uncomfortable!!!

My best advice would be to bend at the knees...if you don't, your back will get even worse after pregnancy...and the back aches are normal this early in pregnancy since your uterus is beginning to move up and forward, that means everything else moves too. Also, all of your joints loosen--mother nature hasn't perfected the art of only loosening the hips/pelvis--you will find that your shoes will be too big, too. Don't worry, if it gets really bad, they make this thing called something like a belly strap, which basically holds your belly up for you...you can find it at babies'r'us...I wish I had gotten one!

It's very common, due to ligament, joints expanding and softening to make room for your baby.
I injured my back when pregnant with my first child and my back was a nightmare during my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies.
Right down at the base of my spine. I used to sit on the floor or lie down and couldn't get up again, it would lock in place...agony. Doctors didn't seem worried though, went for physio but it didn't help. Soon after my babies were born it completely went. Just take care lifting heavy things, bend at the knee.
Good luck with the baby & don't be too worried, it's quite normal.

This is natural. You will also start having "Dodgy" Knees and ankles. When you are pregnant your ligaments relax to allow the babies head to pass through the pelvis, unfortunately the chemicals released by the brain are "Non selective" and allow all ligaments to relax. This causes all joints to be a bit painful at times.... This is a generalisation some women do not have problems of any sort but it is not uncommon....

Yes it is quiet common and if you are in the early stages of pregnancy then I have bad news for you it only gets worse. Try sleeping at night with a pillow between your legs. It helps keep your spine alligned and also relieves pressure on your lower back.

remember to bend your knees when you need to bend to pick up something or turn the fan on. you need to take extra care of your back in not only this stage but as your tummy will get bigger there will be more strain on your back.
take care and keep well for the baby's sake.
