Depends on the days you plan to travel. There is a storm they expect to be a hurricane by next Wednesday and should be in the GULF OF MEXICO by then.

One cannot predict a hurricane that far in advance. What may be a tropical storm only, may turn into a hurricane; or vice versa.
Also, should there be a storm or hurricane in the Atlantic, it may not go west over Cuba. If headed that way, there is a good chance it will turn and head north. These storms are noticed when they form heading out from Africa, but when they come to the Caribbean, they can increase or decrease and change directions several times. Therefore, it is hard to predict in advance as they can change direction the day before they are suppose to reach a designated area. All you can do is just keep watching the weather reports on TV or the internet and hope that one doesn't come your way when you're there. Cuba is a great place to visit....have a great trip.

I live in Miami, FL . So far this season we have had no storms. You will have plenty of warning if one is coming as the National Hurricane Center starts watching and tracking every big wave that comes off the West coast of Africa. September is the height of the season so anything could happen. If you are in Cuba and a storm is on the radar heading for Cuba... get the hell out as soon as possible. Cuba is NOT prepared and they are a very poor country. The USA is the richest country and they cannot be totally prepared for the tremendous power of one of these storms. And in response to " being fun".... having your house ripped off the foundation while you are huddled in a bath tub with your family under a pile of quilts...What do you think????
Unlike tornadoes, the high winds of hurricanes last for hours with an ear piercing howling whine. They are horrible.

I wouldn't worry to much about hurricanes, the cubans are well organised to deal with them and much fun can be had on the malecon in havana during the storm.
Only thing to remember is after a storm walk in the middle of the road in Habana Vieja (old havana) as buildings are known to collapse.
